Ice cream Sensory play

Its August mid here and we are already feeling the chill!! Falls is right around the corner and I have made sure to soak in as much as sunlight we can get. So an invitation to make ice cream seems to be a perfect idea.

Using cotton balls as the base was very convenient for me because cleaning up is much easier. To make it real I set up some colored rice, small pom poms as sprinkles; red beads as cherries and blue beads as blueberries. We got this nice scoopers and ice cream stand from target dollar spot.

The kids jumped to ‘work’ in the mere sight of the bin. M was more into the toppings She enjoyed scooping and pouring into ice cream cups. In minutes all toppings were a huge heap.

Meanwhile R made his own ice cream in the big cup. He liked the rice sprinkles and added a’ cherry ‘ on top. With that he was done.

M kept on playing with the cotton balls. She prefer hands to get the cottons than the scoopers. I keep showing her how to use the scoopers. Sometimes changing the scooper get her attention.

She likes the steel scooper and could get some cottons into the cups. She also filled up the cups with all pom poms.

Later she got her jungle book animals and we played hide and seek in the cottons until I was tired( of course she never gets tired of this game ever). It was a lot of sweeping and heaping of cotton balls. Perfect for a great sensory experience!
