Letter E Activities

If you have missed previous letter of the week activities please read them below.

Letter A /Letter B /Letter C /Letter D

Here’s the plan for Letter E week. We try to keep our activities more play based. She is also drawn to her big brother’s worksheets. So I have included some hands on worksheets to go with the theme. Some days she would finish many activities but other days she hardly finish one activity. But we keep on reading and pointing to our focus wall or just sing the alphabet song any chance we get. So you know your child best and always remember to have fun with them.

Focus Wall

Usually I do the prep work over the weekend and keep them in boxes for easy access. We do the focus wall for the letter on a pocket chart. This was a great investment I did and it has been useful in many ways to us. I will use almost all the alphabet supplies around our home to set this up.

Day 1

🔸Object Bin

I had a hard time looking for objects that start with letter E and these are what I got – Elephant, Eyes, Ears, Eggs, Eggplant, Excavator. This time we transformed the bin into a mystery bag. How?Simply spread a cloth on top of the basket and let them grab a thing and name it. She loved this game and wanted to play it multiple times.

🔸Eraser Sorting

I had some variety of mini erasers from target dollar spot. Using an egg carton I made this easy sorting activity. Add a tongs to make it more challenging.

She picked some using tongs and once she realised using hands are easy she ditched it. But the activity was quite engaging. Who could say no to those cute erasers after all!

🔸Letter Collage

Print out the letter E block letter from here. Give them glue and some googly eyes to have fun.

I am not confident yet to give her the glue bottle so still hanging on with a tub of glue and qtips. She went a bit crazy over glue( look at those blobs of glue here and there). And carefully placed those eyes on them.

🔸 Letter Tracing mat

We are still going strong with these tracing mats from Lavinia pop’s inmyworld. Her love for dry erase markers make this happen so far.

Day 2

🔸 Book: The Eye Book

A fun book by Dr. Seuss that is perfect for Letter E week. She loved the animal shadows in the book cover. We also watched the animated version of the book and saw the story of Elmer the patchwork elephant.( I don’t have the book and we miss library so much 😩)

🔸 Sponge painted Elmer

She is a rainbow lover so I knew that I have to do this rainbow Elmer with her. I drew the outline of Elmer on paper and used some cut up sponges to make the square block prints.

But unfortunately R was much faster than her and covered most of Elmer before she could. So she decided to create her own prints at the paper edge. Lately she prefer some order in her play (see those lined up prints).

We also played a dot marker game using our color dice and dot markers. I printed an Elmer picture from Internet. We took turns to roll the dice and dot that color on Elmer using the dot marker.

🔸 E is for Elephant

Print the block letter E from here. You can choose to print it on color paper or to paint it the desired color. We printed on a blue cardstock and once cut glue it to another paper.

Add the ear and trunk which you can cut out free handed from the same blue paper as seen above. At the end add two eyes to make the elephant.

🔸 Paper plate Elephant
🔸Dot marker page

Making E using pom pom magnets on a cookie sheet. We also made Letter E using some foam blocks.

An elephant snack is a great way to end the day.

Day 3

🔸 Letter E Book

This cute mini book is from The measured mom. M love these books with realistic images.

🔸 Exercise Eggs

I wrote some gross motor activities on a paper strip and placed them in some plastic easter eggs. They took turns to open the egg and did what it said. Some of the them were :

  • 10 Jumping Jacks
  • Stomp 10 times
  • Sing abc song while skipping
  • 10 pushups
  • Do crab walk
🔸 Egg pom pom painting

An easy process art for the littles. Cut out an egg shape from a card stock paper and using masking tape make any design. Make a pom pom brush by clutching a pom pom on clothespin and let them paint away.

R chose to paint each sections with different colours while M was trying out all colours at once.

The most fun part was peeling off the tapes after it’s been dried.

🔸 Egg printables

We practiced tracing E using some Printables from Carisa’s Tot school printables.

Day 4

🔸 Book : Green Eggs & Ham

A rhyming book by Dr. Seuss where Sam offers green eggs and he resists them however he tries. They had good laugh watching the animated version in YouTube.

🔸 Potato print Green Egg

Inspired by the book we made this simple green eggs. Cut a card stock in egg shape and using halved potato stamp green paint in the middle. I cut 3-4 eggs from one sheet of paper so that she could make many of them.

🔸 Egg treasure hunt

A treasure hunt you can do sitting on your couch while learning some math. Write numbers on each half of the plastic eggs and turn them upside down on a tray. Hide the treasure ( we used a smiley eraser) under one of the egg. Let them roll the dice and open the egg accordingly. Whoever gets the treasure will be the winner.

🔸 Letter ‘E’ find

This hands on printable activity is from Carisa’s Tot school printables. I laminated the E cards and hid them in our new dollhouse. She had to find them and match it to the sheet. To make it easy and appealing I hid them at obvious places.

Day 5

🔸 Shaving Cream ‘E’

Squirt some shaving cream on a tray. Add some blue & green food color ( earth theme) and stir it in using toothpick or wooden dowel. Lay down the block letter E flat on top and press a bit to get that evenly coated. Once it’s dried seal it using a scotch tape.

🔸 E is for Elmo

M had so much fun with our furry clap n sing Elmo. At first she was scared if it and slowly they became friends. So I decided to do a lowercase ‘e’ craft for Elmo.

🔸 E tracing with pushpins

While learning letters if you use similar sheets with same tools it’s a sure way to backfire in toddler world . I try my best to keep the worksheets interesting with more hands on stuff. These are finger print letters but we used some pushpins to poke holes on the letter. Place it on some stacked up felt sheets to make it easier.

Sensory Bin

🌴🐘Safari Small world🌴🐘

A safari small world for sensory fun while learning about elephants. I prepared this small world using following supplies:

🐘 Blue pebbles 🐘Rocks.
🌴 Fake plants.
🌵Corn kernels.
🐘Logs.

M loved the corns and hid the animals to play hide and seek. We pretended elephants drinking water and going to sleep. In R’s version during night time they got attacked by lion and had a fight .After that R got the elephants out to play with Thomas train tracks. And M was trying to sit on the tray to hide her feet 🙃.

Playdough Invitation

I set up an invite to decorate a playdough easter egg using loose parts. What’s in the tray?

  • Homemade Red play dough
  • Craft sticks
  • Color sticks
  • Red gems
  • Mini cube blocks

Usually I sit beside her and create something on my own. Sometimes she copy me or else exchange what we made. Recently she likes to make her handprint on playdough. She went a bit far today and stepped on the table to get her footprint!
