Pumpkin Sensory Bin

It’s almost Halloween time and a pumpkin theme is perfect to kickoff the celebrations. To start off the theme I put together this sensory bin. We always love to start our theme on a sensory bin. It’s so much fun while learning many skills together.

Materials needed:

  • Black beans
  • Orange glitter balls( Michaels)
  • Pumpkin candy jar( Dollar tree)
  • Foam pumpkin ( Dollar tree)
  • Tongs and scoopers

The orange glitter balls was a great find and it made the bin more inviting. I was planning to use orange pom poms but it was nowhere to be found as it’s the Halloween season. So I had to use the glitter balls but it turned out so well.

The scoopers are from target dollar spot and are perfect to do the scoopings and transfer. I scored them during the summer season and it’s been regularly used in sensory bins ever since. She spent most of the time filling and dumping the candy jars. Her all time favourite activity!

We tried to pick the balls using tongs and it was very challenging for her but she held on. I showed her how to open and close the clasps to pick the ball and not to leave until it reach the jar. Wow how difficult does that sound? We assume certain things are so easy until we show to kids just to realise the complexity of many tasks that we perform with ease.

Then we did some stacking with the candy jars and she loved it. Just because it was glass I couldn’t let her do it a lot. I was scared of them breaking in million pieces. We also kept the pumpkin at top which made her laugh even more.

Setting up this bin was relatively easy and it got her attention long enough for me to enjoy a coffee. So I would give this a 5 star. Anything for having that coffee without reheating the zillionth time!!
