If you have missed previous letter of the week activities please read them below.
Letter A /Letter B /Letter C /Letter D / Letter E
Here’s the plan for Letter F week.
Focus Wall
Usually I do the prep work over the weekend and keep them in boxes for easy access. We do the focus wall for the letter on a pocket chart. This was a great investment I did and it has been useful in many ways to us. I will use almost all the alphabet supplies around our home to set this up.
Day 1
🔸Object Bin
This week we have Frog, Fish, Firetruck, Funnel, Fork, Feather in our basket. We continue to play the mystery basket game by covering it with a cloth. She seems to be liking the game and picks up the vocabulary fast.
🔸 Flashlight Search
I can’t stress enough the importance of bringing back the alphabets together once introduced. She’s having real hard time with identifying certain alphabets. So I make sure to do some simple whole alphabet activities in our weekly lesson. Here’s such a simple one. You will need:
- Flashlight
- Sticky notes
- Markers
I wrote the letters on sticky notes and fixed them on the wall. Then we made a make shift tent under our table with a blanket and using a pen flashlight we searched for the letters. She loved this game and was not willing to come out of the tent.
🔸 Letter Collage with Feathers
She glued some colorful feathers on big block letter F. I got these lovely feathers from target dollar spot.
🔸Letter Dot marker
Dot marker pages are the best ‘worksheet ‘ for toddlers. Dot markers are one of the must buy if you have a toddler at home. To change things up this week I gave her some blue pebbles to fill the dots and make the fish.
Day 2
🔸 Book: The Rainbow Fish
We read the book Rainbow Fish and they instantly fell in love with the gorgeous sparkly fish. It’s a pretty shining book with a great moral.
🔸 Rainbow Fish Craft
Supplies needed:
- Paper plate
- Blue tempera paint
- Multicolored paper
- Glitter
- Googly eyes
Paint the plate blue and once it’s dried cut out a triangle shape and staple at the end as a tail. Then add the googly eyes.
I cut the multicolored paper in small semicircles and let them glue as colorful fins. At the end add some glitters for the shining effect.
🔸 Fish Bubbles Counting
We got this printable from The measured mom. Use some blue pebbles to practice one to one correspondence.
🔸 F is for Fish
Supplies needed:
- F letter cut out from orange paper
- Blue/ Yellow/ Green construction paper
- Googly eyes
I cut all the pieces out of orange/yellow/ green paper and I guided her to glue the pieces as shown on a blue paper.
🔸 Alphabet Fishing
An activity to reinforce the letters we have learned so far. I got these fish decals from dollar tree. I just added a paper clip on each fish and gave her our fishing rod ( from a M&D fish puzzle set) to catch the fish letters that I call out.
Day 3
🔸 Letter F Book
This cute mini book is from The measured mom. M love these books with realistic images.
🔸 Feed the Frog
Supplies needed:
- Plastic easter grass
- Bugs
- Parmesan cheese container
- Googly eyes
Glue two eyes on top of the container and let them pick up the bugs to feed the hungry frog. Use tongs to add more challenge.
🔸 Paper plate Frog
- Paper plate
- Green paper circles
- Googly eyes
- Red strip of paper
- Pipe cleaner
- Cut a paper plate in half and paint it green
- Add two green circles as eye pockets and glue the googly eyes on top.
- Staple a brown pipe cleaner as mouth
- Roll up the red strip of paper a bit and glue/staple it down as tongue
🔸 Five green & Speckled Frog puppet play
These cute frog printables are from here. Cut them out and tape it on a craft stick to act out the popular nursery rhyme. We used half cut pool noodles as a stand for the sticks.
Day 4
🔸 Letter F words puzzle
These free word puzzles are from This reading mama Letter F learning packet. She’s getting the hang of doing puzzles now and this one helps to develop vocabulary too.
🔸 Arrange the Flowers
A simple activity using a colander and some plastic flowers. Encourage them to insert the flowers into the holes to make like a vase.
🔸 Flower craft
Supplies needed:
1️⃣ Paper plate.
2️⃣ Red paint.
3️⃣ Green & Yellow construction paper.
🌺Paint the paper plate red and make sure to cover the sides well.
🌺 While it’s drying, cut out an yellow circle for the center and a green stem & leaf from construction paper.
🌺 Draw the outline of petal on the dried paper plate and let them cut it out( help if needed).
🌺Glue on the circle in the center and the stem & leaf at the end.
The flowers turned out so bright so we decided to tape them on our windows to spread some good cheer. A bloom for the gloomy days🌺
🔸 Flower printables
These free flower printables are from 3dinosaurs.com. It’s a free spring packet and I printed out the number puzzle and flower case sorting activity for her to try.
Day 5
🔸 Fruit Shadow match
I tried out a shadow match activity with her today. But it was pretty hard for her and need lot of prompting. Later I took out our fruit/vegetable basket from Ikea to play a matching work too.
🔸 Letter F hands-on sorting
A hands on letter sorting activity using Toilet paper rolls. Cut up some tubes and write the capital and small letter ‘f’s on each. Insert two craft sticks on a styrofoam board and give the rolls for them to sort into the right sticks.
🔸 Foil painting
A simple process art with foil and paint.
🎨Cover a piece of cardboard with foil.
🎨Use masking tape to make any design.
🎨Squirt a drop of dish soap in the paint so that the paint doesn’t flake off once dried.
🎨It may take longer time to dry and once dried take off the tape.
🔸 Letter Tracing mat
She love these dry erase markers. She will trace the letters once or twice and then it’s scribbling time with all the colors.
Sensory Bin
If you’re feeling ready to embrace a mess then get some shaving cream for a great sensory experience.
💦Squirt shaving cream on a clear tray.
💦 Add blue food color to it and stir it in using a toothpick/ wooden dowel.
💦Spread out the fish /shells and plants for a themed fun.
R finished off his play in 10 minutes while M was reluctant to start. I encouraged her to dip her fingers then palm and then both hands. Nevertheless to say she took off from there and she ended up in bath tub with all the bin, toys and clothes after 1 hour. But the massive fun she had was well worth it.
The food color did stain her hands but spending another 30 minutes in bathtub playing, her hands came out clean.
Playdough Invitation
I got these shiny sparkly beads set from Walmart years ago while I went a bit crazy over jewelry making ( may be now it’s time to restart 🤔). And M is a fan of all things glittery so I set out this Playdough invitation to make a rainbow fish.
After waking up from nap she saw this on our flisat table and let out a ‘wow’ 🤗and got to work. See how the play turned out at the end. This girl needs some real jewels to adorn her I guess 😆
