We all love playdoh but the mess it creates.. ‘nah I will pass’. It’s very intimidating to break out the playdoh but the skills they learn out of it are numerous. Lots of imagination and creativity along with sensory input and fine motor skills are involved in playing with playdough.
I love to set up an invitation to create based on our theme with a variety of loose parts to use while playing. You can choose any divided tray for the presentation. Usually dollar tree has a dipping tray for just $1 which works well for an invitation. I got this wooden utensil holder from amazon and I love the way we can adjust the dividers.
Materials needed:
- Orange and yellow playdough (homemade)
- Googly eyes
- Orange pom poms
- Black beans
- Cut straws
- Green pipe cleaners
- Pumpkin stickers
- Wooden craft sticks
If you have any store bought playdough you can use that too but I highly recommend using homemade ones especially if you have any mouthing toddlers. There are many recipes over the internet but I used the one I got from her playgroup and it turned out well. If anyone wants that recipe here you go.
While choosing the loose parts there is no specific rule and anything you have handy can be used. I also added some pumpkin stickers and pop sticks to use as prompts while we sing the ‘ Five Little Pumpkins’ song
M was so much drawn to the googly eyes and tried to poke into playdough. We added some beans as nose and mouth. She got hold of the knife tool and enjoyed cutting the pumpkins. I also rolled some snakes for her to practice precise cutting.
