No theme will be perfect without some playdough fun!! I always prefer to make it at home as the texture is more smooth and it won’t dry as fast as it does for store bought ones. Also we can whip up a lot of playdough to have ample sensory time too.
I have already shared the recipe for homemade playdough. This time we just added black liquid watercolour to make some black playdough. You need to use lots of black liquid color to get the thick black dough.
I like to present a selection of loose parts for the kids to use their imagination. Sometimes I will model them what they can make and other times they will surprise me with new creations. There is no hard and fast rule here just use the materials as you please and make something.
R choose to make the obvious a spider with straws as legs. These black and white striped straws are from Walmart and I cut them in half. You can also give black pipe cleaners to be used as legs and it can be even bent to give more character.
M poked and pinched on playdough for a while and tried to stick on black studs and straws on it. She also loved the googly eyes and stuck many into the playdough.
She figured out the black studs will fit perfectly in the straws and insisted on doing more.
We have some plastic spiders from dollar tree and they are great to make a perfect imprint on the playdough. R tried all the colors and M was learning how to press hard enough to make an impression.
