We love bookish play here so I always make it a point to do some book based activities every week. This book goes along with our fall leaves theme. The story is about mouse and minka having fun with leaves piling them up and hiding in them.
M loved the book especially the part where Minka is hiding under leaves! The book is so colorful with easy to read text and lots of leaves to look around. We did a sensory bin activity to rekindle the book and it was easy to set up.
Materials needed:
- Plastic fall leaves ( dollar tree)
- Corn kernels
- Ref colored rice( homemade)
- Mouse ( Ikea)
- Scoopers and Tongs
M is so much into scooping and pouring stage now so she happily played with the cups and bowls.
Adding a funnel for pouring rice or any free flowing material is more fun in sensory bins. It challenges motor skill and needs coordination to do so. We always make sure to do some funnel work too.
The tongs were perfect to pick those plastic leaves. R was digging for the leaves most of the time and he tried to hide the mouse in the leaves.
What followed through was a big mess of red rice everywhere once she decided to use hands. Thankfully the cloth underneath could hold most of the mess. But what it really worth is that the kids had tons of fun!
